What is a beading board ?

A beading board is useful for jewelry making. Although it is not 100% necessary to use a beading board, it really save you time & effort when you plan your designs before you start stringing / wiring the beads.

Beading board comes in a few different sizes & designs. But all of them will at least have 1 long groove to display your beads. Each of the beading board has a few compartments to store your beads & findings as you work on your projects. Hence beading board does help you organize better. In the above diagram, the beading board has 3 grooves to make 3 strands. You could also use the bigger space in the center to design your handphone straps / bag straps / earrings.

The markings on the beading board helps you to determine the desired length of your finished project. If your design has a central point of interest, place the bead at "0".

With a beading board, you are able to add or take away any beads until you are fully satisfied with your jewelry design before you start to work on your project.

Beginners Corner

Working with jewelry wires are fun & challenging. You can work with eye-pins or directly with jewelry wires. I love working with Artistic wire because this type of wire does not tarnish & rust. They are inexpensive & do not cause allergy to my skin.

Earrings are easy tasks for beginners as they are easy to complete.  Below are some projects that are considered do-able. Try them using headpins, eyepins, round nose pliers, earring components, spacers, lampwork glass bead, gemstones & whatever beads you find fantastic.

PROJECT 1 - FANCIFUL LAMPWORKS

1) Insert the following into a piece of headpin:

* small daisy spacer (about 4~5mm)

* lampwork glass bead

* small daisy spacer (about 4~5mm)

* ball spacer (about 2 ~ 2.5mm)

make a loop with a pair of round nose pliers & connect to the ear wire.

PROJECT 2 - SPARKLING CRYSTALS

1) Insert an oval faceted crystal bead into a head-pin & make a loop with a pair of round nose pliers.

2) Insert the following into an eyepin:

* daisy spacer

* rondelle faceted crystal bead

* daisy spacer

Make a round loop & connect 1 end of the loop to the oval bead while the other end of the eyepin loop to the earring component.

PROJECT 3 - FRESHWATER PEARLS

1) Insert a freshwater pearl bead & daisy spacer into a head-pin & make a loop with a pair of round nose pliers.

2) Insert another freshwater pearl bead into another eye-pin. Make a round loop & connect 1 end of the loop to the 1st bead while the other end of the eye pin to the ear wire.
